Christian Steidl, Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is one of six UBC faculty members who have been named a member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists. Those named to the College represent the emerging generation of scholarly, scientific and artistic leadership in Canada. Founded in 2014, the College is a handpicked selection of top mid-career scholars and artists in Canada. College Members have already received recognition in their fields for excellence and serve as ambassadors of their fields.
Dr. Christian Steidl is a world leader in lymphoma research. His research program on cancer genomics and the immune biology of the tumour microenvironment has already led to breakthrough discoveries in the field. Dr. Steidl’s research strives to identify biomarkers, and rapidly integrate new findings into clinical care, to improve treatment and ultimately survival for lymphoma patients. In the Steidl lab, one of the main goals of his research team is to identify and functionally study underlying genetic mechanisms of immune privilege in lymphoid cancers.
